Atraumatic Restorative therapy (ART)

Atraumatic Restorative therapy (ART) is a minimally invasive dental approach used to treat cavities without traditional drilling using a material called glass ionomer cement.

Who Can Benefit From It?

Early moderate lesions
Primary (baby teeth) which will be falling out eventually
Nervous high anxiety patients
Those with root caries and sensitivity
Those who do not want to be frozen with local anesthetic

What It Involves

Decay is removed using hand instruments (no drill)
Cavity is cleaned and shaped conservatively
The tooth is restored with GIC, which forms a chemical bond to the tooth (material is very similar to our enamel and dentin). Can last up to 6 years.
Releases fluoride into the tooth to help remineralize and protect against future decay
